Issue/Introduction

To configure the ProxySG to intercept Flash in an explicit deployment, perform the following steps:

  1. Set explicit HTTP service to Intercept.
  2. Enable HTTP handoff.

Step 1: Set Explicit HTTP Service to Intercept

An explicit HTTP proxy service controls plain and encrypted Flash connections tunneled over HTTP.  To optimize Flash traffic in an explicit deployment, you should configure the HTTP proxy service to listen on ports 8080 and 80, and then set the HTTP proxy service to Intercept.

To set explicit HTTP service to Intercept:

  1. In the Management Console, go to Configuration > Services > Proxy Services.
  2. In the Standard group, expand the Explicit HTTP group.

Explicit HTTP service groups

  1. For Explicit:8080, select Intercept.
  2. For Explicit:80, select Intercept.
  3. Click Apply.

Step 2: Enable HTTP Handoff

If Flash clients can't connect over raw RTMP due to firewall restrictions, the players are sometimes configured to tunnel RTMP over HTTP (RTMPT). In order to intercept and cache content that uses the RTMPT protocol, you must enable HTTP handoff for the Flash proxy.

Starting in SGOS 6.2.x, the HTTP handoff is enabled by default on new installations. If you're running an upgraded system, you may need to enable the setting if you have not already done so.

To enable HTTP handoff:

  1. In the Management Console, go to Configuration > Proxy Settings > Streaming Proxies.
  2. Select the Flash tab.

Enable HTTP handoff

  1. Select the Enable HTTP handoff check box.
  2. Click Apply.

Note: Make sure that ProxySG has the Flash streaming license. For more information, see 000015423.
