Issue/Introduction

This article details the procedure for extending user search functionality by adding custom attributes to the Identity Portal search interface.

Environment

Identity Portal 14.5 & 15

Cause

By default, the Identity Portal search configuration only includes standard attributes to maintain query performance. Custom or non-standard attributes must be explicitly mapped and marked as "Searchable" within the Managed Object Attributes configuration to become available in search fields.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Identity Portal Administrator interface.
  2. Navigate to the Setup menu in the top navigation bar.

  3. In the left-hand navigation pane, select Managed Object Attributes.

  4. To enable an existing attribute for searching:
    • Locate the desired attribute in the list.
    • Ensure the Searchable checkbox is enabled for that attribute.
  5. To add a new attribute to the search:
    • Scroll to the bottom of the attribute list.
    • Click Add User Attribute.
    • Define the attribute mapping between the directory attribute and the Identity Portal object.
    • Ensure the Searchable checkbox is enabled.

  6. Click Save to apply the changes.

Note: After saving, the new attributes will be available in the portal search interface for authorized users.
