Troubleshooting "Dynamic categorization request failed" messages in the Event Log

Sample Event Log Message:

The ProxySG contacts the dynamic categorization service on port 80. As long as the proxy is allow to make HTTP requests to outside network-DRTR infrastructure, it should work. There are a number of other issues that could cause above Event Log messages.

 

• A packet capture would be helpful if the issue is reproducible.  This will allow examination of what is happening on the wire.
• Does this error occur on every attempt to contact the service?
• Try forcing the dynamic categorization using a test lookup ("Test Url") of a non-existent URL such as "www.bogus.bogus".
  
  A non-existing URL would not even be resolved if you try to proxy a request for it, but the test url feature exercises the service in the same way as a live request this might reproduce the issue.
