Adding RAM or a hard disk to a Symantec appliance
Can I add RAM or hard drives to my Symantec appliance?
What happens to my hardware warranty if I add memory or disk space to my appliance?
You want to add RAM or a hard disk to the device
Some of Symantec's appliances are field serviceable, meaning that the chassis opens in some way to access the disks and RAM.
Upgrade kits can be purchased for such units. Only standard Symantec hardware configurations are supported, meaning you cannot purchase RAM or hard drives from your local computer store and install them into your Symantec Appliance. Technically the appliance may work, but if you have trouble and you open a service request with Symantec Technical Support, you will not receive support until the device is brought back into a standard Symantec configuration. Official Symantec upgrade kits work because there is a known disk to memory ratio for a particular unit and model number. Adding RAM and disks outside the scope of an official Symantec upgrade kit results in voiding the warranty on your Symantec appliance.
Please contact your reseller or Symantec directly for an appliance upgrade kit.
