Embedded Security Critical System Protection

Issue/Introduction

If you are using Symantec Embedded Security: Critical System Protection 7.1 on devices running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, and you upgrade those devices to Windows 10,  the sisipsdevicefilter driver fails to load after the upgrade.

Resolution

Install the Symantec Embedded Security: Critical System Protection 7.1 device driver patch. The Device driver patch file (devicedriverpatch7.1.exe) is attached to this page.

Perform the following actions on the device upgraded to Windows 10:

  1. Ensure that prevention is disabled.
  2. Verify whether the SISIPSDeviceFilter.sys file is available in the Windows driver directory (typically C:\Windows\System32\drivers).
    • If the file is available in the Windows driver directory, skip to step 3 of this procedure.
    • If the file is not available in the Windows driver directory, verify if the file is available in the Windows old driver directory (typically C:\windows.old\WINDOWS\System32\drivers).
      - If the SISIPSDeviceFilter.sys file is available in the Windows old driver directory, right-click the Device driver patch batch file (devicedriverpatch7.1.bat), and then click Run as administrator.
The devicedriverpatch7.1.bat file is attached to this page.
      - If the SISIPSDeviceFilter.sys file is not available in the Windows old driver directory, you must first manually copy this file from the Windows driver directory of another device on which you have installed the version 7.1 Symantec Embedded Security: Critical System Protection agent, and then paste it in the Windows driver directory of this device.
  3. Download and right-click the Device driver patch file (devicedriverpatch7.1.exe), and then click Run as administrator.
The devicedriverpatch7.1.exe file is attached to this page.
  4. Follow the patch installer wizard to apply the patch.
  5. Click Yes at the reboot prompt to restart the device.
