Issue/Introduction

During an upgrade from Symantec Management Platform 8.0 to 8.1, you are receiving the following configuration failed message:

A critical error occurred:

Product failed to install. See logs for details.

Configuration failed while attempting: Configure Symantec Management Agent install - UNIX, Linux and Mac...

From the Altiris Log Viewer:

Environment

Symantec Management Platform 8.0 to 8.1

Resolution

Use the following steps

• Go to the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manger
• Expand the computer hostname on the left
• Expand Sites
• Select Default Web Site
• Click on Bindings...
• In Actions on the right, remove the Asterisk symbol (*) in the host name field for HTTP or HTTPS
• Select the site binding, and click on Edit
• Next, restart the computer or restart IIS
• Once it has restarted run a reconfigure on the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) from Symantec Installation Manager (SIM)
• This is under Repair installed products, and Reconfigure installed products.
