Ghost Solution Suite

Issue/Introduction

When using winPE 10 builds ( 1607 or 1703 ), the x86 pxeboot.bcd file is never generated in the pxe boot option folder:

%Install Drive%\Program Files (x86)\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\PXE\Images\MenuOption1xx\X86PC

No error message is displayed, unless you manually run the PXEfixup.bat then we see the error message:

"The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-|1-1-1.dll is missing from your computer."

Cause

Versions of Ghost Solution Suite 3.2 prior to RU3 were unable to utilize the latest Windows ADK files.

Resolution

Ghost Soulution Sutie 3.2 RU3 and later are able to utilize the later builds of Win pe 1703.   If upgradeing your GSS instalation to 3.2 RU3 is an option.   Once the environment is upgraded to 3.2 RU3 the latest windows PE files can be reimported and used.

If an environment can't be updated to use GSS 3.2 RU3 the following steps can be used to revert to an older verison of windows 10 ADK.

  1. Open control panel > Programs & Features, uninstall Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit
  2. Download & Install windows ADK 10 build 1511 - https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=823089
  3. Close any PXE folders that are open.
  4. Open the Ghost Console > Tools > Boot Disk Creator then select Tools > Install Preboot Operating Systems, then reimport the Windows Kit 10 (x86 & x64)
  5. Close Boot Disk Creator
  6. Open PXE Configuration Utility > Boot Menu, check the WinPE box in lower right corner and Regenerate. Save changes when complete.
  7. Verify pxeboot.bcd was created in .\Program Files\Altiris\eXpress\Deployment Server\PXE\Images\MenuOption1xx\X86PC
