How To Re-Import Windows Preboot Operating Systems Into Deployment Solution 8.x

Issue/Introduction

When WinPE has been previously installed, we need to clean it up before we can re-install and import WinPE (Windows PE) in DS (Deployment Solution) 8.x.

Environment

DS 8.x

 

NOTE: If you're installing WinPE 10/11 for the first time, you can skip this step

Resolution

To download and correctly install ADK files, follow Step 1 in this KB for GSS: KB 178767. Uninstall the existing ADK installs, and follow the procedures.

​To regenerate the WinPE in bootwiz follow the below steps:

1. Locate and edit the PreBootOs.ini on the NS server at "\Program Files\Altiris\Deployment\BDC\bootwiz\".
2. Navigate to line "INSTALLED=True" for any preboot version you want to re-import and modify line INSTALLED=True to INSTALLED=False.
3. This will cause the system to think the ADK has not been installed yet.
4. Save PreBootOs.ini and restart the SMP (Symantec Management Platform) console (browser).
5. Access the pre-boot configuration window (Settings -> Deployment -> create pre-boot configuration).
6. Follow the instructions on the screen on how to download and install the Windows ADK.
