Issue/Introduction

When uninstalling Symantec protection engine on Linux when logged on as root, the RPM -e SYMCScan command does not work.

Resolution

If the product is running, but the RPM command will not uninstall Symantec protection engine, please remove the following items manually as root user:

  • Remove the Symantec protection engine working directory. By default it is /opt/SYMCScan. Remove it with rm -rf /opt/SYMCScan command
  • Remove the SYMCScan service from the /etc/init.d directory. Remove it with rm SYMCscan command

After this, the system is ready for another Symantec protection engine installation.
