Issue/Introduction

With Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition cloud (SEP SBE cloud) and DisplayLink Core Software installed, NIS.exe crashes intermittently.

Windows displays:

The program NIS.exe version 13.1.2.9 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.

Event viewer shows:

Application Error, Event ID 1000, Faulting application name NIS.exe exception code 0xc0000005.

Application memory dump displays:

dlumdk, dlkmd or dlkmdldr in the faulting stack.

Cause

NIS.exe relies on modern graphics technologies to display the user interface. Outdated DisplayLink software or graphics drivers that do not fully support these technologies can cause the executable to crash.

Resolution

Update the DisplayLink software to the latest available version.
