Patch Management Solution for Windows

Issue/Introduction

Ran Import Patch Data for Windows (PMImport) and downloaded version 7.1.897.

Checked Patch Remediation Center (PRC), on the Console > Actions > Software > Patch Remediation Center, and confirmed multiple Adobe Software Bulletins are no longer listed.

Confirmed recent released Adobe Software Updates were present and deployable.

Environment

Patch Management 7.5.x, 7.6.x & 8.x

Resolution

Superseded Software Updates are not deployable via Patch Management Solution, and the Patch Filter drops all Superseded Software Updates as marked in the PMImport download, so the best workaround is to utilize the Software Management Solution to deploy old updates.

This has taken place multiple times in the past and will continue to be part of the process for providing a stable Patch Management Solution moving forward. Please review HOWTO73079 for complete listing of updates added/removed in each listed version of the PMImport.

Note: The setting on the PMImport: Disable all Superseded Software Updates is to clean up the created Software Update Policies, for the Superseded Software Updates are no longer managed, and having them enabled will put more load on the SMP Server during the PMImport as it runs through checks on Software Update Packages & Policies following the PMImport.cab data download from solutionsam.com.

Additionally, it is best practice to have the following settings enabled on the PMImport for package clean-up and increasing performance during these processes, but they may be disabled if the enterprise environment requires the Administrator to manually manage all Software Update Policies and ensure they are enabled or disabled with manual package clean-up. Otherwise, leaving them enabled is the best method of ensuring the Revisions and Newly Revised updates are being deployed as tested, and the Superseded updates are being disabled for they are no longer deployable.
