Assessment Scan caused the Altiris Agent Service to crash

Issue/Introduction

Software Updates fail to install on support Windows Operating System Clients.

Checked the Altiris Agent GUI and Client Logs; found the Windows System Assessment Scan failing to execute, and the Altiris Agent service would crash following this failure.

Altiris Client Logs display the following entries:

  • OnNegotiationStatusComplete(): Master = false, Master Name = , Master IP 4294967295, Package = {6D417916-467C-46A7-A870-6D86D9345B61}, Version = 1481181251, Error = 1223
  • Operation 'Get File' failed. 
  • Download Package failed: Operation aborted (-2147467260)
  • Error while downloading package: Operation aborted (0x80004004)

Additionally, seeing Run Failed with Exit code 255 in the Agent GUI > Software Delivery > Patch Windows System Assessment Scan Tool Package > Run History tab:

 

Environment

Patch Management Solution 7.5.x, 7.6.x & 8.x

Cause

Confirmed corruption in the Windows System Assessment Scan (WSAS) Package snapshot.xml / snapdata.xml files.

The affected Clients were unable to download the package from the SMP Server with the current hash check.

Resolution

Worked through the process to clear the WSAS Package on the SMP Server as outlined on HOWTO101482.
