Issue/Introduction

On a Symantec Encryption Management Server cluster running Web Email Protection, expired messages should only be purged from one cluster member if Web Email Protection messages are configured to replicate to multiple cluster members.

By default, the task that purges expired messages runs on every cluster member.

Environment

Symantec Encryption Management Server 3.3 and above with Web Email Protection enabled.

PGP Universal Server 3.0 and above with Web Messenger enabled.

Cause

The default setting for the task that purges expired Web Email Protection messages can cause excessive, needless replication traffic in a busy environment. This can degrade replication and database performance if messages are replicated to more than one cluster member.

Resolution

Please contact Symantec Support in order to configure the task that purges expired Web Email Protection messages to run only on one cluster member.

This is particularly important for environments that contain large numbers of Web Email Protection users.
