Which license files are needed for Protection Engine 7.0, 7.5, and 7.8?

Issue/Introduction

You want to know which sections are needed in the Protection Engine .SLF License file(s) in order to fully license the product.

Resolution

Symantec Protection Engine (SPE) requires at least four or five license 'types':

• AV Scanning & URL Filtering
• URL Content & AV Content
• Insight

These licenses are generated by registering your Serial number in the licensing portal, https://licensing.symantec.com
This Serial number typically starts with a B or M, followed by 10 numbers, e.g. M0123456789.

AV Scanning & URL Filtering

The product license will list no expiration date. These license files should be retained and leveraged for any server installation for now and the future. Generally, Symantec’s licensing will not issue these license files again upon your renewal.

The AV product license will show in the license file as:
<name>SAVSE40 AntiVirus</name>

The URL product license will show in the license file as:
<name>Scan Engine URL Filtering</name>

AV Content, URL Content, Insight

The AV & URL content licenses are licensing types that usually requires an annual renewal. Each time the Maintenance Contract has been renewed, a new Serial Number will be provided. It will require registration of this new Serial Number in the licensing portal, https://licensing.symantec.com. It will generate a new license file that contains the new content license. 

The AV content, URL content, and Insight license has an expiration date.

The AV Content license will show in the license file as:
<name>SAVSE40 AV Content</name>

The URL Content license will show in the license file as:
<name>Scan Engine URL Content</name>

The Insight license will show in the license file as:
<name>SPEInsightReputation</name>

Protection Engine 7.8: SPE APK Reputation & SPE DeepSight Content

Introduced with Symantec Protection Engine 7.8, SPE APK Reputation & SPE DeepSight Content licenses are licensing types that usually requires an annual renewal much like the AV Content & URL Content license types. Like the AV Content & URL Content license types, SPE APK Reputation & SPE DeepSight Content will expire.

SPE APK Reputation license will show in the license file as:
<name>SPEAPKReputation</name>

SPE DeepSight Content license will show in the license file as:
<name>SPEDeepSight Content</name>
