Issue/Introduction

With Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) installed the built-in Adobe Flash plug in/component in Chrome fails to update saying "Component not updated".

"Component not updated" seen in Chrome when updating the component manually via chrome://components .

Cause

Chrome is unable to move the file while SEP is still scanning the file. If disk activity is high at the time SEP will lock the file and queue the file to be scanned shortly afterwards which extends the lock time.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.0 MP2 and SEP 12.1 RU6 MP8.  For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, read TECH103088:  Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

If an upgrade is not feasible, as a workaround, disable the Deferred Scanning feature as outlined in TECH224108.
