Issue/Introduction

During Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) restore following error message is presented:"Error During database restore. Please check the Control Center log file for details"

Reviewing the logs, following error might be found:

"Oct 06 2016 12:08:37 [http-bio-443-exec-3] [RestoreAction] ERROR - Backup image is incompatible with target system.  Host roles must match. "

 

Resolution

This is by design. Backup from a SMG with particular host role can only be restored to another SMG with the same host role, e.g:

- SMG "Control Center only" backup can only be restored to a different "Control Center only" appliance

- SMG "Scanner and Control Center" backup can only be restored to a different "Scanner and Control Center" appliance
