Starting on August 18th. 2016, when using Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (Cloud) on Windows desktops, users may see a Norton Account notification popup appear, inviting them to create a Norton account.

Users will see a popup notification that looks similar to the below screen shot:

This notification was sent to SEP SBE clients in error and it is not necessary for SEP SBE customers to create Norton accounts.

This message does not represent an error with the product. Users of the SEP SBE product may safely disregard this message. Symantec Development is aware that this message was sent in error and is taking steps to avoid such communications being sent in the future.

If this behavior is persistent, users may remove the notifications by following these steps:

  1. Restart the computer in safe mode.
  2. Delete the following folders, if they exist:
    1. C:\ProgramData\Norton\00000083
    2. C:\ProgramData\Norton\00000082

Note: The ProgramData folder is hidden by default. You can access this folder by typing %ProgramData% in Windows Explorer, or by showing hidden files and folders.
  3. Restart the computer.
