Annotation not working with Simplified Chinese GB2312

Issue/Introduction

When an annotation is created by Messaging Gateway (SMG) using the Simplified Chinese (GB 2312) character set and attached to a message, the annotation is not appended to the original message as expected. Instead, when the message is viewed in some mail clients, the original message appears as an attachment to a message containing the annotation text as the message body.

Cause

SMG is unable to properly identify the character set of the annotation as GB2312 and so defaults to US-ASCII which changes how the annotation is merged into the original message.
 

Resolution

This issue has been addressed with the SMG 10.6.3 release.

For earlier versions, s a workaround, please remove chinese characters from the annotation text.
