Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (On-Premise)

Issue/Introduction

This document describes the options available for responding to advisory SYM16-010 as a user of Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1 (On-Premises).

Resolution

Responding to SYM16-010

In an effort to optimize our small business portfolio and remove redundant offerings, Symantec decided to End of Life the Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1 product back in May 2015. More details available here: End of Life for Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (SEP SBE) 12.1.X and Symantec Protection Suites Small Business Edition (SPS SBE) 4.0.

In response to SYM16-010, Symantec has released AntiVirus and Intrusion Prevention System signatures as a mitigation for our customers. More information on these signatures is available in the posted advisory: SYM16-010 - Symantec Decomposer Engine Multiple Parsing Vulnerabilities.

In order to ensure full protection against these vulnerabilities as a user of SEP SBE 12.1 (On-Premises), additional action is required in the form of a product update.

As already indicated in the End of Life announcement, customers using the SEP SBE 12.1 (On-Premises) product are recommended to migrate to Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (Hosted).  This product provides the same great endpoint security along with easy cloud based management.  Instructions for migrating to SEP SBE (Hosted) are available here: How to migrate to the Cloud version of Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition.

In the event that SEP SBE 12.1 (On-Premises) End of Life product customers are not yet ready to upgrade to the recommended SEB SBE product, an additional migration option to Symantec Endpoint Protection Enterprise Edition (EE) 12.1 is also available.  Migration instructions for upgrading to SEP EE 12.1 are available here: How to upgrade / cross-grade Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 from Small Business Edition to the enterprise edition.

Licensing

As mentioned in the documentation for migrating to SEP SBE (Hosted), if you have questions about licensing, please Contact Support for more information.

If you wish to remain with an On-Premises solution and have questions about acquiring a license for SEP Enterprise Edition 12.1, please Contact Support for more information.
