FMR: To add the ability to retrieve a Workstation Encryption Key (WEK) thru a DAT file (or similar functionality) on the Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.1.x (SEE) platform

Issue/Introduction

With legacy SEE 8.2.1, endpoints reported their WEK key (in some form) over to the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server (SEEMS). This could be extracted from the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Manager console (on the Server or Manager Computer) into a DAT file with password protected content, that could then be used with the Recovery CD in order to perform a full decryption of the drive. On the SEE 11.1.x platform, endpoints no longer have this capability (they can only be decrypted using Client Administrator credentials). Only existing SEE 8.2.1 endpoints (that have not yet been upgraded) that still report in to the upgraded SEE 11.1.x server, have the ability to be able to generate this DAT file. This Feature Request is to enable similar functionality on the SEE 11.1.x endpoints as well.

Resolution

Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.  This Feature Request is currently being considered by Symantec Corporation to be addressed in a forthcoming version of the product.

Technical Support filed a Feature Request to add this product feature. Note that a feature request is exactly a request. There is no committed date for this request from the Symantec Encryption Server Product Management team, nor from the Symantec Encryption Server Engineering team at this time.
