BUG REPORT: Unable to install Symantec Endpoint Encryption Help Desk 11.1.1 using the Single Server Suite installer on a Windows Server OS system due to lack of IIS Web Server Role

Issue/Introduction

Earlier versions of Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.x.x allowed the Management Consoles, including the Help Desk console, to be installed on Windows Server OS 'Manager Computers' without the need for the IIS Web Server Role. Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.1.1's Server Suite installer fails to do so with the following pop-up error message:

 

"Installer detected that your local IIS Web Server is not operational. Please verify that IIS 6.0 or later is installed and corresponding services are up and running. Then click Next."

Resolution

Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers. This issue is currently being considered by Symantec Corporation to be addressed in a forthcoming version or Maintenance Pack of the product.  Please be sure to refer back to this document periodically as any changes to the status of the issue will be reflected here.

The following may provide a temporary workaround for the issue until the version/maintenance pack is released:

Enable the IIS Web Server Role temporarily to complete the install.
