Issue/Introduction

NOTE: This article applies to Application Metering version 8.0 only

SAMDriver.sys (Application Metering Plug-in) causes BSOD on Windows 7 and Windows 10 clients. 

SAMDriver version is 8.0.2200 in 8.0 GA , 8.0.2300 in 8.0 HF1 .

 

Resolution

Symantec is aware of this issue. A pointfix for 8.0 HF1 is attached to this article. The point-fix resolves Blue Screen of Death with error “SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION” (Bug check code 0x0000003b) that is caused by SAMDriver.sys for Application Metering Agent 8.0/8.0 HF1.

REQUIREMENT

The point-fix was specifically made for Inventory Solution 8.0 HF1. Please upgrade to 8.0 HF1 before applying this point-fix.

HOW TO INSTALL THIS POINTFIX

  1. Extract files from the archive to the NS hard drive.
  2. Run PFInstaller.exe as administrator, click the Install Files button when prompted.
  3. Open Windows Task Scheduler on the NS, select the Task Scheduler Library folder, find the NS.Package Refresh task and run it, click Refresh until it finishes, then find and run NS.Package Distribution Point Update Schedule.
  4. In the Altiris console find the Application Metering Plug-in for Windows Upgrade policy (under Actions > Agents/Plug-ins > Rollout Agents/Plug-ins > Discovery and Inventory > Windows/UNIX/Linux/Mac) and make sure that it is enabled and scheduled so that it will rollout the pointfix to all the computers.
