Issue/Introduction

This article provides an overview of how Workpoint Job and Activity IDs are generated within Identity Manager and explains the significance of the numerical prefixes appearing in the WPDS ID format.

Environment

Identity Manager

Cause

The numerical prefixes (1–4) appended to the WPDS ID are expected behavior, representing specific object types within the Workpoint engine. This is an informational article and not the result of a system defect.

Resolution

When a work item is created in Workpoint, it is assigned both a Job ID and an Activity ID. The numerical prefix indicates the WF_OBJECT_TYPE of the item.

Numerical Prefix Definitions:

  • 1: WF_OBJECT_TYPE_PROCESS_INST
  • 2: WF_OBJECT_TYPE_ACTIVITY
  • 3: WF_OBJECT_TYPE_ACTIVITY_INST
  • 4: WF_OBJECT_TYPE_WORK_ITEM

Example:

  • A generated ID 1 1234:WPDS indicates a process definition ID, where 1234 is the Job ID and 1 is the Job ID prefix.
  • The second numerical value in an ID (e.g., in 1 4 1621:WPDS) represents the iteration count, which increments as changes are made during the approval process.
