The following section summarizes how to use Smart Connect with a Group Policy logon script
to copy a proxy PAC file to a Smart Connect user's computer.

Starting in Microsoft Internet Explorer 11, the "Use automatic configuration script" setting in
 Internet Properties no longer supports the "file://" protocol. As a workaround,
Smart Connect v1.5.2 and above  supports the serving of a PAC file from the URL
 "http://localhost/ra/proxy.pac".

The proxy script must be named "proxy.pac" and must be placed in the Smart
Connect installation directory.


Using a Windows Group Policy logon script to deploy a PAC file to Smart Connect computers
==========================================================================================

Note: The following procedure is based on a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 environment.

1. Open Group Policy Management.

2. Right-click on the domain and create a new Group Policy object called "CopyPACFile".

3. Right-click on the newly created object "CopyPACFile", and click "Edit".

   - The Group Policy Management Editor opens.

4. Under User Configuration / Policies / Windows Settings / Scripts (Logon/Logoff),
   double-click "Logon" to open the Logon Properties script.

5. Click the "Show Files" button to see the location for the script. You must place your
   script file in this location. The script file is designed to copy a PAC file from a shared
   location to a Smart Connect user's computer upon user logon.

6. Run the logon script on a domain user's computer to ensure the PAC file is copied
   to the Smart Connect installation directory as intended.

Some general reminders for the PAC deployment and writing the script:

* The file must be called "proxy.pac" and must be placed in the Smart Connect installation
  directory for the Smart Connect service to be able load it.

* The default Smart Connect installation location is
  "C:\Program Files\Symantec.cloud\Smart Connect" for a 32-bit OS, and
  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec.cloud\Smart Connect" for a 64-bit OS.
  Ensure that the script can handle both situations.

* To ensure that domain users have access to the shared directory, place the PAC file
  somewhere in the default domain share \\<Your Domain Name>\Netlogon.

* Domain users' browsers should use the URL "http://localhost/ra/proxy.pac" to load the automatic
  configuration script. Refer to Microsoft's website for more information about
  using Group Policy to manage Internet Explorer settings or the automatic configuration
  script option on users' computers.

For the below method you will need to utilize the ZIP version (Windows Server Group Policy Deployment)

The following section summarizes the Smart Connect agent deployment procedure using
the Group Policy feature on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2. For any other
software deployment management software, consult the corresponding documentation.

Using Windows Server 2008 Group Policy Deployment
=================================================

1.  Create a network share drive that is accessible from all client computers.

2.  Unzip the Smart Connect installation package file (SmartConnect_2.x.x.zip)
    to this shared drive.

3.  If you have a customized Smart Connect configuration file
    (i.e. AgentConfigure.xml), place it in this shared drive.

4.  Open Group Policy Management and create a new group policy object named
    "Smart Connect 2.x.x" under Computer configuration or User configuration.

5.  Right-click on the newly created group policy object and create a package
    under Software installation.

6.  Browse to the network share drive that you created in step 1 and select the
    SmartConnect.msi file.

7.  Select "Advanced" for the deployment method.

8.  Click on the Modifications tab and click the "Add" button.

9.  Select the applicable transform files (.mst) as described below:

    If you plan to deploy with a customized Smart Connect configuration file  
    as described in step 3, select ConfigFilePath.mst.

    Click the "Add" button again and select the corresponding language MSI
    transform file.

    You should see the two selected mst files in the "Modifications" box.

10. Click on the "Deployment" tab and click the "Advanced..." button.  
    Check the box "Ignore language when deploying this package".

11. Modify any other deployment options as required.
