Issue/Introduction

In OneClick when I right click a device and select telnet or SSH can I change where this communication is initiated from?

Can we block or control SSH sessions to managed devices from one OneClick while allowing it on another OneClick?

Planning to deploy two new landscapes (Primary & Secondary SpectroSERVERs, OneClick & CAPM Collector). All of our landscapes connect back to a "central" landscape where all of our backend components sit and also has OneClick consoles that can access all the landscapes. The new landscapes have security requirements that determine how their devices can be accessed from outside their local network.

These settings are accessed in the OneClick UI via the View -> Preferences menu option. Navigate to the Topology Tab and select the "Telnet/SSH Connection Type" option.

Environment

All supported Network Observability DX NetOps Spectrum Fault Management releases

Resolution

From OneClick you can connect to devices using telnet or SSH by right-clicking the device and then selecting one of these options.

Whether the OC or SS host managing the device is used to initiate the requested SSH session depends on the Preferences configured for the Topology Tab "Telnet / SSH Connection Type” option.

It can be set to one of the following three options.

  1. Connect to the device through OneClick web server and SpectroSERVER.
  2. Connect to the device through SpectroSERVER.
  3. Connect to the device directly

Per User: Setting it for each user is done via the OneClick WebApp UI. Select the View > Preferences menu option. Scroll down to the Topology Tab > Telnet / SSH Connection Type setting.

Per User Group: Go to the Users tab in a OC WebApp UI. Right click on the target User Group and choose the Set Preferences option. Scroll down to the Topology Tab > Telnet / SSH Connection Type setting. Any user in the group will use that configuration.

For All Users: Go to the Users tab in a OC WebApp UI. Right click on the top level Users label. Choose the Set Preferences option. Scroll down to the Topology Tab > Telnet / SSH Connection Type setting. Any user in the group will use that configuration.

Additional Information

Please reference the "Set OneClick Preferences" section of the documentation for more information about the Topology Tab Preferences.

See the following KB article for further definitions of each option: Explanation of the different Telnet/SSH connection types under the user preferences -> Topology Tab.
