3048 error, unable to find an automated fix

Issue/Introduction

An attention dialog is displayed for Endpoint Protection Cloud and indicates that the error cannot be fixed.

"Symantec Endpoint Protection.cloud has encountered an error." 

"We were unable to find an automated fix for this issue. Please go to our Support Web site for further assistance."

Most often this is followed by error code 3048, 3 but may contain any code between 3048, 1 and 3048, 15.

Cause

Corrupt virus definitions typically due to system reboot, power loss or network interruption during a liveupdate session.

 

Resolution

Run the intelligent updater:

  1. Go to the Intelligent Updater downloads page.

  2. Depending on your version of Windows, do one of the following:

    • For Windows (32-bit): Click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i32.exe. e.g. 20070828-017-v5i32.exe

    • For Windows (64-bit): Go to the 64-bit Platforms section, and click the first file in the list under Filename. The file name starts with the year and ends with v5i64.exe. e.g. 20090922-017-v5i64.exe

  3. Save the file to the Windows desktop.

  4. On the desktop, double-click the file that you saved.
