Issue/Introduction

  • Error indicates that license registration could not complete with Cannot register the specified license file.
  • Indication from SMG that the license file may be invalid.
  • Attempt to install new license file while there is an active license file in Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG)

In the Control Center web interface:

Cannot register the specified license file.
Unable to complete registration with Symantec. You may have specified an invalid license file. Specify a valid license file. No more information

In BrightmailLog.log:

Cause

SMG cannot register licenses that have a future start date.

Resolution

The new license cannot be installed until the current license in the SMG expires.

This occurs at 23:59:59 Pacific time on the expiration date of the license, so adjustments for local time may be needed.
