Issue/Introduction

When attempting to install Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 RU5 or later on RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), you receive the following error:

Relocation not supported for this configuration, please use --prefix /opt/Symantec

[[email protected] ~]$ sudo ./install.sh --prefix /opt/custom/ -i

Relocation not supported for this configuration, please use --prefix /opt/Symantec
Virus protection component failed to install, with error: error: sav-12.1.6608-6300.i386: install failed

Cause

The SEP install will abort if the BaseDir value contained in /etc/Symantec.conf is different than the value supplied for --prefix or --relocate.  The install must adhere to the Symantec hawking install guidelines and if another Symantec product has been previously installed then the SEP installation must use the same BaseDir value.

Resolution

You will need to install SEP to the same Base Directory as any other Symantec products on the computer.  If the computer does not currently have a Symantec product installed, you can simply remove /etc/Symantec.conf or modify the BaseDir value to the desired directory and rerun the installation script.
