Issue/Introduction

Users need to add additional language message to quarantine email notifications.

Resolution

To edit message body text sent from the quarantine message setting. In Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) console navigate to "Policies"<"Content Filtering Rules"< Double click the rule you are using < select "Actions" and edit the "Description:" as needed – see below.

 

 

To change the quarantine release message output you will need to edit your registry.

 

Using the Registry Editor:

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry be made prior to making any registry changes.

 

1. Open the Registry Editor. (Windows Start button type in “regedit”)

2. Browse to the following registry key: 

32 Bit Operating System: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version>\Server\Conponents\Quarantine

64 Bit Operating System: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version>\Server\Coponents\Quarantine

 

NOTE: The <version> part of the key path is dependent on the version of SMSMSE installed.

 

Edit the string "QuarantineReleaseBodyStr" to change the quarantine release message body.

 

NOTE: Use the %n for a new line and the color shows the added text.

 

Example:

%nThis file, which was attached to the message titled "%1" by "%2" and was quarantined on %3, has been released. %n%nNote: By default, the items that are released from the local quarantine are not rescanned for risks, file filtering or content filtering violations. Please exercise caution when opening the items that are released from the quarantine.%n%nThis file, which was attached to the message titled "%1" by "%2" Added message or different language.%n%nNote: By default, the items that are released from the local quarantine are not rescanned for risks, file filtering or content filtering violations. Message body output from the above registry entry:

This file, which was attached to the message titled "Hello" by "[email protected]" and was quarantined on 12/31/2015 1:26 PM, has been released.

Note: By default, the items that are released from the local quarantine are not rescanned for risks, file filtering or content filtering violations. Please exercise caution when opening the items that are released from the quarantine.

Edit the string "QuarantineReleaseSubjectStr" to change the quarantine release message Subject

 

NOTE: No special format is needed.

 

Example:

This item has been released from quarantine. Added Message information.

This item has been released from quarantine. Added Message information.

3. Restart the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange services.

 

4. Test your modified messages.
