System error from attempting update in the first 30 minutes after install

Issue/Introduction

For the first several minutes after installing ATP, an update icon may appear in ATP Manager for the appliance. This update icon may then disappear from the appliance after a few minutes. Immediately after an install, an update may or may not be available, even if the update icon displays in ATP Manager. Selecting an update operation after installation when an update is not available will lead to a system error.

  • When clicking on the Update button, the update dialog reads:
    Appliance upgrades require a reboot of the appliance. The download and upgrade process may take 30 minutes or more. If you proceed with this upgrade, check back later to ensure the upgrade to version Registration Failed. This host i completed successfully. Are you sure you wish to proceed with the upgrade?
     
  • The system health halo for an individual appliance on its appliance property sheet is colored red.
     
  • When clicking on the system health halo for an indivudal appliance, the status message shown is:
    Device encountered an error during software update;

Resolution


Do not attempt to perform the update operation until at least 30 minutes or more after installing an appliance. The update icon may be available, but do not select it unless it remains on the appliance for at least 30 minutes after the installation.
