Issue/Introduction

Symantec Control Compliance Suite (SCCS) Console is showing xml errors when trying to navigate to the various sections within the Menu Bar, like Manage > Assets.

A dialogue box pops up with the following error message: Following are the application messages that are logged when the problem occurred: The most recent message is listed first. * There is an error in XML document (0, 0). * Root element is missing. --- Application Execution History --- at System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.Deserialize(XmlReader xmlReader, String encodingStyle, XmlDeserializationEvents events) at System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer.Deserialize(TextReader textReader) at Symantec.CSM.AppsFramework.PropertyTabs.PropertyTabsController.RestorePreference(IPreferenceAccess viewPreferences) at Symantec.UIToolkit.Framework.Views.DefaultCompositeViewController.RestorePreference(IPreferenceAccess viewPreferences) at Symantec.UIToolkit.Framework.Views.TargetNavigator.NavigateNew(NavigationTarget viewTarget, State state,NavigationContext context) at Symantec.UIToolkit.Framework.Views.TargetNavigator.InPlaceActivation(IJournalEntry currentEntry,IJournalEntry newEntry, NavigationMode mode, NavigationContext context) at Symantec.UIToolkit.Framework.Views.TargetNavigator.Navigate(IJournalEntry currentEntry, IJournalEntrynewEntry, NavigationMode mode, Object context) at Symantec.UIToolkit.Framework.Navigation.Navigator.SyncNavigate(JournalEntry oldEntry, JournalEntry newEntry, NavigationMode mode, Object context) Note-When clicking on OK, it still doesn't provide access to the selected item.

Cause

Corruption with the CCS Console User specific "Preferences" folder.

Resolution

  1. Close the CCS Console.
  2. Re login to the error generating machine using the user credentials with which you are having problems.
  3. Now, go to the following location- C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Symantec\CCS
  4. Here you will find a folder named as Preferences. Rename it to Preferences.old.
  5. Close Windows Explorer now.
  6. Re Launch the CCS Console.
  7. Check if everything is up and running now.
