Patch Management Solution for Windows

Issue/Introduction

After installing MS15-115 older updates begin trying to reinstall.  For example on one Windows 7 SP1 system the following updates show as needing to install:

MS14-068
MS14-074
MS15-055
MS15-085
MS15-090
MS15-122
MSWU-1329
MSWU-1485
MSWU-1526

All older updates show in Add/Remove Programs as being installed.

Error Message: 2359302 or 0

2359302 is a Microsoft code that signifies the patch has already been installed.

Cause

MS15-115 was installed out of order.  Microsoft requires MS15-122, and MS15-121 to be installed before MS15-115  Please see TECH233504 for more details.

Resolution

The defective targeting rules that allowed the problem to occur have been fixed by PMImport v7.1.741 (released on 11/13/2015) and PMImport v7.0.1443.1 (released on 12/10/15). This appears to be an issue for customers who rolled out the updates prior to the latest Microsoft revision 8.0 for MS15-115 dated November 13, 2015.

If the updates were installed prior to the fix then uninstalling the updates from MS15-115, MS15-122 and MS15-121 and letting them reinstall in the correct order resolves the issue.
