PGP Viewer (for Android)

Issue/Introduction

PGP Viewer for Android is unable to decrypt an encrypted HTML message which uses PGP Partitioned encoding. When viewing the e-mail in the native Android mail client, and tapping the PGPexch.htm.pgp attachment to the e-mail, the PGP Viewer for Android displays a blank message body. The message contents are not displayed and the attachment tab of the displayed message contains two attachments - version.txt and message.pgp.

Resolution

Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers. This issue is currently being considered by Symantec Corporation to be addressed in a forthcoming version or Maintenance Pack of the product. Please be sure to refer back to this document periodically as any changes to the status of the issue will be reflected here.

Workaround

The following is a known temporary workaround for the issue until the version/maintenance pack is released:

  • Use other encryption encoding such as PGP/EML or PGP/MIME
  • Select and copy the cipher text from the PGP Partitioned encrypted mail body and then open PGP Viewer for Android so that it decrypts the message from Clipboard
  • If the original message contains attachments, decryption of attachments works fine. The issue is only there for the PGPexch.htm.pgp attachment.
  • Decryption works fine on the K-9 Mail app. K-9 Mail is using WebDAV to work with Exchange, so it only supports version 2003/2007. With later versions of Exchange, which don't use WebDAV anymore, K-9 cannot be used as a workaround.
