Active window in Mac applications lose focus when Endpoint Protection client is installed

Active window in Mac applications may occasionally lose focus when Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client is installed. For example, typing in a word processing application may suddenly stop working because the system behaves as if another window or the desktop has been selected.

Diagnostics show that the SEP process is taking the window focus. These symptoms appear to occur in managed SEP Mac clients at the same frequency as the communications heartbeat interval set in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).

This issue has been fixed in SEP 12.1 RU6 MP2. Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection and upgrade SEP for Mac.

Until an upgraded SEP client is installed, frequency of this issue may be reduced by increasing the communications heartbeat interval at the SEPM:

  1. Open the SEPM console and go to Clients and select the clients group folder for the affected Mac clients.
  2. Select the Policies tab, and under Location-independent Policies and Settings click Communications Settings.
  3. Increase the Heartbeat Interval as desired.
