Issue/Introduction

A Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) admin account is configured to authenticate using LDAP.  Clicking the "Test Account" button results in an error window titled Account Authentication Failed.

Account Authentication Failed.

The error window contains the descriptive text "Unable to authenticate the directory account. Verify that the directory server and account name entered are correct, and try again."

Cause

Clicking the "Test Account" button results in an LDAP searchRequest for the LDAP user account.  The search is not correctly configured and results in a searchResDone with resultCode 32 noSuchObject.  The failed LDAP searchRequest results in the Account Authentication Failed error.

Resolution

This problem is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14. For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, read
Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection

To workaround this issue ignore the "Test Account" button returning the "Account Authentication Failed" error.  If the LDAP information provided for the SEPM admin is correct the account will function regardless of the "Test Account" button error.
