Issue/Introduction

Managed Policies with active assigned computers where the Inventory Rule is the default Software Resource Keys generate a new Detection Rule every 2 hours, beginning to fill up the Item table.

This usually shows up by running the SMPDiag when checking for large amount of entries in the Item table of certain types. When detection checks show up as being duplicated many, many times, this issue is occurring (or a variation on this issue).

Resolution

A point-fix has been created for this issue on version 7.6 HF2.

HOW TO INSTALL THIS POINTFIX

  1. Extract files from the archive to the NS hard drive. Make sure that point fix is not extracted to Altiris install directory (or any subfolder to it). Run PFInstaller.exe as administrator.
  2. Execute PFInstaller.exe with administrative privileges (right-click > Run as administrator). Select "Install Files".
  3. Accept UAC (User Account Control) prompt, select Install Files. Old binaries will be automatically backed up to the Backup folder at the same location where PFInstaller is and replaced with the new ones. Log-file log.txt will be created at the same location where PFInstaller is.
  4. Close the PFInstaller window.

HOW TO UNINSTALL POINTFIX

  1. Make sure that Backup subfolder is located in PFInstaller directory.
  2. Execute PFInstaller.exe with administrative privileges (right-click > Run as administrator). Old binaries will be repaired from Backup folder located at the same location where PFinstaller is. NS services should be started automatically.
  3. Accept UAC (User Account Control) prompt, select “Uninstall Files”.
  4. Close the PFInstaller window.
