Issue/Introduction

You upgrade a Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client from 12.1.5 or earlier with a 12.1.6 reduced-size client. Afterwards, you notice that the client still uses the standard-size virus and spyware definition set, when you expect it to use the reduced-size definition set.

Cause

The existing standard-size definitions are more recent than the reduced-size definitions provided with the reduced-size client.

Resolution

The client continues to function as expected until the client receives the newest reduced-size definitions from the management server, LiveUpdate, or the Group Update Provider.

By default, Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) receives reduced-size Virus and Spyware definitions for the clients. To verify Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager downloads this content to make available to clients:

  1. Click Admin > Servers > Local Site > Edit Site Properties > LiveUpdate
  2. Under Content Size to Download, both Standard Size Virus and Spyware definitions and Reduced Size Virus and Spyware definitions should appear. If they do not, click Change Selection, click Both standard size and reduced size content, and then click OK.
  3. Click OK to close Site Properties.
