In the Installation Guide for Data Loss Prevention for versions 12.5 and earlier, in the section on preinstallation steps, it reads:
“Turn off the Microsoft Auto Update feature. Contact your Symantec representative before installing any new patches. Symantec verifies new Microsoft patches and publishes a technical bulletin at the Symantec Data Loss Prevention Knowledgebase when it is safe to apply new patches to Symantec Data Loss Prevention servers.”
In accordance with our recommendations on our document, Security Best Practices:Stopping Malware and other threats , we have adjusted our recommendations.
Symantec is no longer performing certification of Microsoft patches, and it is recommended that customers maintain an updating and patching schedule to migrate from outdated and insecure application, while leveraging User Acceptance Testing as part of the deployment plan in order to insure minimal outage time.
