Issue/Introduction

A warning message is displayed when inserting a removable drive encrypted by Microsoft BitLocker into a machine running Symantec Endpoint Encryption Removable Storage.

You will see an error message similar to this:

The Removable Storage Access Utility for Windows could not be copied .... There is not enough space on the disk.

Not enough space on the disk

Cause

When a removable drive is encrypted by Microsoft BitLocker, all the space on the drive is marked as used. Therefore there is no space to copy any files to the drive, including the Removable Storage Access Utility for Windows.

Environment

  • Endpoint Encryption 11.0 and above.
  • USB drive encrypted with Microsoft BitLocker.

Resolution

Click the OK button to acknowledge the warning message and, optionally, enable the option "Do not show this message again this session".

You can use the BitLocker To Go Reader to access the files on the removable drive in the normal way. The hidden BitLockerToGo.exe reader is copied to removable media when it is encrypted by BitLocker.
