Issue/Introduction

How to install a CCS 11.0 remote console on a workstation in another domain.

Resolution

Suppose if our CCS Application Server is in Domain A and we need to install CCS Console on a Workstation in Domain B then-
Prerequisites-
a)Make sure that there is a Trust configured from Domain A to Domain B. Domain A(Trustee Domain) should Trust Domain B(Trusted Domain) in order to grant the requests from Domain B.
b)Make sure that Telnet is working on Ports 1431,12467,12468,3890 & 6360 from the Workstation in Domain B to the CCS Application Server in Domain A.
c)To launch the CCS console, ensure that the screen resolution is greater than 800x600. If the screen resolution is lesser than the recommended value, the 2008 Fix Pack 2.5 fails to install.
d) Remote consoles won't work unless there is a Trusted CCS Service Account for Delegation in Active Directory. The SPN’s must be setup for that Service Account. Specifically for the Directory Support Service (DSS) and the Application Server. Two SPN’s for each on the basis of FQDN Name and NetBios Name.
SPN’s can be set up from the Application Server or the DC(Domain Controller).

Now in order to install the CCS Remote Console on the Workstation in domain B we can use the following two methods-

Method A-Via the CCS Web Console.
Step 1-Launch the CCS Web Console on the client machine via the following URL-
If SSL is not configured for Web Console in IIS 7.0 or IIS 7.5 use this link-
http://IP Address or Name or FQDN Name of the Application Server/CCS_Web
If SSL is configured for Web Console in IIS 7.0 or IIS 7.5 then use this link-
https://IP Address or Name or FQDN Name of the Application Server/CCS_Web
Step 2-Once the Web Console is launched then click on the "Downloads" tab in the Menu Bar and then from there click on the link "Install Symantec Control Compliance Suite Console" and follow the instructions.

Method B-By copying the Console Setup to the client machine from the Application Server.
Step 1-On the Application Server go to the following location-
<CCS Install Drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\CCS\Reporting and Analytics\WebPortal\
Step 2-From the above location inside the "WebPortal" folder look for a folder named "Console".
Copy the entire "Console" folder to the client machine.
Step 3-On the client machine now open the "Console" folder and run Setup.exe or execute the ClickOnce Application Deployment Manifest "SymConsole.application" to install the Control Compliance Suite Console for Reporting and Analytics.

Note-Once the CCS Console is successfully installed, launch it to verify that it’s working & communicating to the App Server in the other domain.
