Issue/Introduction

This article provides solutions for troubleshooting the installation of Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server.

Resolution

Problem

During installation, you receive an error message, Error 27502. Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server ‘(servername)’.

Login failed for user ‘domain\username’. (18456)

Solution

Windows Authentication: You do not have an account in SQL Server. Create a login account in SQL Server for the user account and add the following privileges: public and sysadmin
Note: You can remove this account after installation. It is only required to create the database.
 


 

Problem

During installation, you receive an error message, Error 27502. Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server ‘(servername)’.

Login failed for user ‘domain\username’. (18456)

Solution

This error can occur due to choosing SQL Authentication on the Database Location and Credentials page during installation.

This is resolved by enabling the SQL Server to use Windows Authentication Mode in SQL server and then restart the SQL server.
 


 

Problem

During the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server installation, you receive an error that the database already exists.

Solution

Two options:

  • Back up the current database and delete it from within SQL Server.
  • Choose a different name for the database.
     

 

Problem

You launch the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server, configure all settings, and click Install. The following error appears.

Solution

Install the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server with an account that has local administrator privileges. You may need to log out and back into the server for the changes to take effect.
 


 

Problem

You receive the following database error during installation:

Solution

  1. Launch SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. In SQL Server Configuration Manager, in the left pane, under SQL Server Configuration Manager, select your SQL Server.
  3. Make sure that SQL Server is in the state: Running. If your SQL Server is not running, right-click it and then click Start.


     

 

Problem

No SQL Servers appear when you select Browse on the Database Location and Credentials page of the Symantec Endpoint Encryption Management Server installation.

Solution

You must enable the SQL Server Browser. To enable the SQL Server Browser, do the following:

  1. Launch the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. Open Properties and select the Service tab.
  3. Click the arrow next to Start Mode and select Automatic.
  4. Right-click SQL Server Browser and click Start.
