After installing Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1 RU5 with Virus, Spyware, Basic Download Protection and Advanced Download Protection only; the client reports an error, "Download Insight is malfunctioning". The issue does not occur if Advanced Download Protection is removed or if Proactive Threat Protection, Intrusion Prevention, or Network Threat Protection are installed.
Download Insight is not functioning correctly due to an intrusion prevention component.
The idsxpx86 driver fails to start correctly. This driver is required for Advanced Download Protection.
This issue has been resolved in Symantec Endpoint Protection version 12.1 Release Update 6 (RU6). Please upgrade to this version or higher to resolve this issue.
For RU5 clients, two workarounds are available that will remove the "Download Insight is malfunctioning" message:
Either change can be done via Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, by selecting to Change or Modify the existing SEP client installation. The second option would be preferable, since it adds additional protection.
