Issue/Introduction

You want to download the Symantec Security Information Manager (SSIM) 4.8.1 Patch 10 and review the readme and documentation for this patch. The patch and all documentation is attached to this document.

 When trying to install the SSIM 4.8.1 patch from the Web Interface via Product LiveUpdate, it’s fails with the following error: Disk space check for 1400830774jtun_sim49lupkg_svr.jar failed

Resolution

Note:  The following items are different from previous patch requirements:

• If you want to update via the SSIM WebUI, you must create a Java LiveUpdate configuration for any SSIM servers in the SSIM Java Client and you must disable the CacheMode option for that Java LiveUpdate configuration. See screenshot below.
• The minimum disk space required to install the Patch using the LiveUpdate within the WebUI is 3 GB in the /tmp folder. If the available disk space is less, you will have to download and run the patch installer on each SSIM server.

NOTE : Compared with SSIM 4.8 and prior Patch installers, SSIM 4.8.1 Patch
installer is updated to remove the password prompt for administrator user and
cn=root user.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY THE PATCH
================================================================================
* Apply this patch only to those SSIM Servers that are running Information
Manager 4.8.1

NOTE: SSIM 4.8.1 Patch 10 requires 700 MB of free disk space in the / and /opt
partitions.

The Patch can be installed using the LiveUpdate feature on the Information Manager
web console. To apply patch on all appliances, connect to the Information Manager
web console of each server and run LiveUpdate. The minimum disk space required
to install the Patch using the LiveUpdate is 3 GB in /tmp folder. If the available
disk space is less, you can download and run the patch installer.

You must disable the CacheMode option for Java LiveUpdate configuration in Information

Manager thick console.

PATCH PRE-INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
================================================================================
Before you install the Patch, do the following:

* Save all work, backup any data and close any Information Manager console
sessions.

The SSIM Directory Servers must be updated first, starting with the primary
directory, then followed by all replica directories. All other SSIM Servers can
then be updated.

NOTE: There is no facility to roll back or uninstall the Patch.

PATCH INSTALLATION
================================================================================
1. Connect to the server using an account with administrative or root
privileges either by using an SSH client or by logging on locally.

2. Download the Symantec_Security_Information_Manager_4.8.1.810_Linux_EN.tar.gz
and .md5 files to the /tmp directory.

NOTE: You must use BINARY mode when transferring the files to the server.
Some FTP utilities use ASCII mode by default, which corrupts the
installation file.

3. Verify the integrity of the downloaded .tar.gz file by using a file
verification tool such as md5sum, which is included with the Linux
installation. If you use md5sum, execute the following command:

md5sum -c Symantec_Security_Information_Manager_4.8.1.810_Linux_EN.tar.gz.md5

NOTE: Both the .tar.gz and .md5 files must be present in the same directory
for md5sum to execute correctly.

4. Unpack the patch by executing the following command:

tar -xvzf Symantec_Security_Information_Manager_4.8.1.810_Linux_EN.tar.gz

5. Change directory to the patch directory by executing the following command:

cd Patch10-481

6. Execute the following command:

sh install.sh

NOTE: The installer will automatically restart all the services when done.
The SSIM installation history file will be updated at /etc/ssim-history.

The Patch installation logs are available at
/opt/Symantec/simserver/logs/sima-upgrade_4.8.1.810.log
