Issue/Introduction

With the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) 12.1 web console, after typing in the credentials and attempting to log on you get an error message.

The SEPM scm-ui.err log contain a java NoSuchMethodError message.

Lines from the scm-ui.err log file:

20.06.2014 08:12:32 STDERR: [com.creamtec.ajaxswing.ClientAgentImpl$ClientAgentDelegate] Failed with exception
20.06.2014 08:12:32 STDERR: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.creamtec.ajaxswing.core.ClientAgent.resetCurrentInstance()V
20.06.2014 08:12:32 STDERR: at com.creamtec.ajaxswing.rendering.html.HTMLClientAgent.emulateRequest(HTMLClientAgent.java:574)

Cause

Two of the SEPM JAR files may have failed to update during the last product upgrade.

The SEPM_INST.LOG file can confirm:

MSI (s) (60:98) [13:48:15:169]: File: C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\webapps\ajaxswing\WEB-INF\lib\scm-ajaxswing.jar;    Won't Overwrite;    Won't patch;    Existing file is unversioned but modified
MSI (s) (60:98) [13:48:17:122]: File: C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\webapps\ajaxswing\WEB-INF\lib\ajaxswing.jar;    Won't Overwrite;    Won't patch;    Existing file is unversioned but modified

Resolution

  • Stop the SEPM services
  • Delete (or move) the "ajaxswing.jar" and "scm-ajaxswing.jar" files, located in the "tomcat\webapps\ajaxswing\WEB-INF\lib" SEPM subfolder.
  • Run a MSI repair of the SEPM.
