Some of the documents that will be indexed are password protected (e.g. password protected Financial spreadsheets). If that password protected file was included in the zip file for IDM, would the file be indexed?  If the identical file (with password protection) was sent out of network, would Symantec DLP detect it?

Yes, Symantec DLP would index a password-protected file if it was included in a zip file for IDM.

Symantec DLP also would detect the file if it was sent out of the network.

NOTE:  When text can’t be extracted (or too short) for whatever reason (including encryption) an MD5 hash of the file binary will be kept in the index and used in detection.
