The Vontu Monitor service doesn't start with error "Failed to load JVM"

Issue/Introduction

After a reboot the Vontu Monitor and Vontu Update services fail to start.

 

When you try to restart the Vontu Monitor service manually you get the error “Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely manner.” which is documented in KB 54560.

 

The VontuMonitor.log was also showing the error:

 STATUS | wrapper  | 2012/08/28 16:34:02 | Launching a JVM...
 INFO   | jvm 50   | 2012/08/28 16:34:02 | Error occurred during initialization of VM
 INFO   | jvm 50   | 2012/08/28 16:34:02 | Unable to load native library: Can't find dependent libraries
 ERROR  | wrapper  | 2012/08/28 16:34:02 | JVM exited while loading the application.
 FATAL  | wrapper  | 2012/08/28 16:34:02 | There were 50 failed launches in a row, each lasting less than 120 seconds.  Giving up.
 FATAL  | wrapper  | 2012/08/28 16:34:02 | There may be a configuration problem: please check the logs.

Resolution

Compare the list of the files in the \Vontu\jre\bin folder, which is the source of the JVM, with another Detection server.

You might have some of the following missing files:

\Vontu\jre\bin\awt.dll
\Vontu\jre\bin\dcpr.dll
\Vontu\jre\bin\deploy.dll
\Vontu\jre\bin\hpi.dll
\Vontu\jre\bin\nio.dll
\Vontu\jre\bin\verify.dll
\Vontu\jre\bin\fontmanager.dll
\Vontu\jre\bin\net.dll

 You can restore those files from another Detection server and the Vontu Monitor and Vontu Update will start up correctly.
