Issue/Introduction

During a database scan perfomed by a DLP Network Discover server an error occurs in the scan detail log indicating "The content root URI is malformed" and the scan appears to complete. The user may interpret the error as an issue with scanning the target file system.  The scan target is a Microsoft SQL database server. Additional detail regarding "The content root URI malformed" error can be found in the scan detail log.

Resolution

The primary cause of the "The content root URI is malformed" error is the user account used for the DLP Network Discover scan has an invalid password or incorrect permissions to access the scan target. Verifying the password and account permissions should resolve the error and allow the file system scan to complete as expected.
