Issue/Introduction

What characters are allowed in the Oracle Protect password?

Resolution

Guidelines for an acceptable Oracle user account password:

  • Passwords can not contain quotation marks.
  • Passwords are case sensitive.
  • A password should begin with an alphabetic character.
  • Passwords can contain alphanumeric characters and the underscore (_), dollar sign ($), and pound sign (#).
  • However, Oracle strongly discourages you from using $ and #.
  • Password may NOT contain the "@" character.

Additional Information

These guidelines effectively determine that a "safe to use" password will only have underscores as special characters. However, many customers require more flexibility. We encourage careful use of any special characters as passing them from DLP to the DB may cause issues if used incorrectly.
