"The Crawler threw an exception" when trying to run a discover scan on .pst files

Error: The crawler threw an exception.  Scan details log indicates "Failed to initialize MAPI: 80004005"

Resolution

Starting with DLP version 11, Windows 2008 R2 can now be used as a detection server.  Windows 2008 R2 is 64 bit.

In previous versions of DLP only 32 bit Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition was supported.

For Discover to scan .PST files on 32bit Windows 2003, you will need to install a 32 bit version of Outlook 2003 SP3 or later.

For Discover to scan .PST files on 64bit Windows 2008 R2, you must install the 64 bit version of Outlook 2010. (Office 2003 and 2007 are 32-bit only)
