Issue/Introduction

In upgrading the Oracle database to 10.2.0.4 I ran into the error message ORA-01918: user 'MDSYS' does not exist.

On page 33 of the "Symantec Data Loss Prevention Oracle Installation and Upgrade Guide" (1-800-0900-2009-03-16), step 5, I did the following:

SQL> alter user mdsys account unlock;
alter user mdsys account unlock
           *
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01918: user 'MDSYS' does not exist

Is this a problem?  What do I need to do?

Resolution

The mdsys account is associated with the Oracle Spatial features.  The DLP product does not use these features.  This error and the rest of the SQL commands in step 5 can be skipped.
